"LIGHT ON" IN EDEKA JAKSCH
14. December 2011 - Press

Cologne, October 2011 – 'Light on' was the catch-phrase in EDEKA Jaksch in Gieboldehausen, Lower Saxony, Germany in July. The supermarket was opened in summer with a modern and energy-efficient lighting concept sourced from Oktalite.

Customers find goods for their daily needs in a retail area totalling 2,500 m², and more than three quarters of the space, 2,000 m² to be precise, serve as display areas for foodstuffs. Illumination for the sales areas comes from the company of Oktalite. Sonja and Torsten Jaksch, the operators of the supermarket, were impressed in particular with the flexibility and individuality of the company based in Cologne: "Oktalite slightly modified the fundamental lighting concept to create a friendly and fresh atmosphere." Christoph Löhnert, field sales representative with Oktalite, added: "It was a special project for us because it was the first supermarket as part of the EDEKA Hessenring area planned in line with the current shopfitting concept from the construction department. We're pleased that EDEKA placed their trust in us to assume responsibility for the light as part of such an appealing project." The food sector is one of the Lighting Manufaktur´s core expertise areas; the company has specialised for almost 30 years in lighting for the retail sector.

With implementation the lighting experts depend on products from their own manufactory. Compact, filigree luminaires were fitted in the fruit counter area to bring in some lightness and a sense of transparency for the entrance area. Fruit furniture with rear glass panels also typifies this character. The  professionals from Cologne illuminated wine with the Merano Pro, a red glass luminaires with energy-saving 50W HIT technology. "With these luminaires we not only optimally illuminate the goods, but the luminaires themselves are real eye-catchers," explained Christoph Löhnert. The glass spots are also used in the cosmetics department, in this case in white according to the assortment of goods.

Sensitive goods such as meat and cold meat products demand lighting that is especially caring for the products. This is why modern LED technology has been implemented here that ensures precise colour rendering with simultaneous UV and IR-free light: the Xandros spot. The benefits of LED luminaires compared to those with conventional technology are with energy efficiency, lower amortisation times and therefore also cost cutting for operators. General lighting of the retail store is also according to this approach: Oktalite implemented an energy-efficient solution with a connected load of 100 watts instead of the usual 150 watts, and thanks to highly efficient reflectors with a higher absolute luminous efficacy.
